Research Goals: Examine the extent and variability of the genetic potential for bacterial halogenation in the marine environment to evaluate the likelihood for widespread production of these natural analogues by bacteria and to evaluate differences in spatial and temporal patterns of the suite of HOCs in marine mammals with habitats that differ in anthropogenic exposure to identify signatures/fingerprints of anthropogenic versus natural influence.
